Your Impact

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Substation Maintenance Program Manager to lead and oversee the maintenance, reliability, and performance of our substation assets. This role is responsible for developing and executing maintenance strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing budgets, and optimizing the lifecycle of substation equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, technical expertise in substation operations, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in maintenance practices. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive substation maintenance program to ensure asset reliability and performance.
  • Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies for substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, breakers, and protection systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, including NERC, FERC, OSHA, and IEEE guidelines.
  • Lead a team of maintenance technicians, electricians, and subcontractors, providing technical guidance and training as needed.
  • Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends, optimize maintenance schedules, and improve system reliability.
  • Develop and manage maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective asset management and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project management teams to support capital projects, system upgrades, and new installations.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships for outsourced maintenance services, ensuring quality and cost control.
  • Oversee emergency response plans for substation outages and develop mitigation strategies to minimize downtime.
  • Implement and enhance asset management tools, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems), and reporting frameworks.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating best practices and new technologies into maintenance processes.
  • Provide regular reports and updates on maintenance activities, asset health, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior management.

Specific duties may vary or evolve over time based on business and client needs.

Core Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of [X] years of experience in substation maintenance, asset management, or electrical utility operations.
  • Strong knowledge of substation equipment, maintenance best practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing maintenance programs, including budget oversight and resource planning.
  • Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS), asset tracking, and reliability analysis.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with high-voltage safety procedures, switching operations, and protection schemes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (NERC, FERC, IEEE, OSHA, NFPA 70E).
  • Ability to analyze data, generate reports, and make data-driven decisions for optimizing asset performance.
  • Willingness to travel as required for site visits and project oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or PMP certification.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and remote monitoring technologies.
  • Six Sigma or reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) certification.
  • Background in renewable energy substations or transmission & distribution networks.

Physical/Work Environment
