Description of Work

This position provides advanced administrative support to the Population Management Office, with a primary focus on coordinating virtual hearings for incarcerated individuals statewide and assisting with the Safekeeper admission process.

The role requires strong organization, professional communication, discretion, and independent judgment while working with a diverse group of stakeholders, including judicial officials, attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, DAC staff and leadership, and external partners.

Manage and maintain the statewide virtual hearings calendar for all correctional facilities.

Schedule and coordinate virtual hearings, ensuring proper notice, connectivity, and participation.

Serve as a liaison between DAC facilities and external stakeholders, including judges, attorneys, clerks of court, and law enforcement.

Troubleshoot scheduling conflicts and ensure necessary resources (e.g., technology and space) are in place.

Track and document hearings, attendance, outcomes, and any technical issues. Schedule and coordinate virtual hearings involving offenders.

Assist in the intake, tracking, and management of individuals designated as safekeepers.

Coordinate communication and documentation between DAC facilities, courts, sheriffs’ offices, and other law enforcement agencies and enforcement entities.

Ensure all required legal and procedural documents are complete and processed in accordance with the Department policy and applicable law.

Schedule and coordinate virtual hearings involving offenders.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $41,206.00 - $72,113.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience handling project coordination preferably within a criminal justice or correctional environment
  • Documented experience working with high level stakeholders or working with leaders within organizations preferably within a criminal justice or correctional environment
  • Experience working with people management or project management tools such as an HRIS, Smartsheets, or some other similar software

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
