Registered Nurse – Vascular Access Team – Riley – Part-time Nights

Come and join our new Riley VAT (Vascular Access Team)! The Vascular Access Team is intended to use knowledge regarding intended treatments or interventions and forecast vascular access needs of an individual patient. 

The ideal candidate will have pediatric critical care experience, be competent in starting basic PIV's, venipuncture, and have proficient IV skills. SonoSite training is preferred. The incumbent should also have excellent time management skills, communication skills and coaching skills. 

The VAT RN will support and attain vascular access on patients, coach, and mentor nurses on IV starts and peripheral sticks, and perform bedside care as needed.  The VAT RN will be responsible for facilitating patient needs and assists with interdisciplinary provider & physician collaboration as well as collaboration with nursing, pharmacy, CNS, and provider team.  

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

• Basic PIV skills and sonosite ultrasound training to place PIV’s, perform lab draws and blood cultures      
• A future goal of team is PICC placement      
• Collaboration, building new team, mentoring bedside RN’s in the moment, action planning and data gathering for quality monitoring

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
