SUMMARY
Performs a wide range of routine and complex pharmaceutical duties in support of pharmacy operations. Assumes a lead role among support staff within the pharmacy. Relieves the Pharmacist of duties related to the intake of new prescription information and the handling of Schedule II controlled substances per MA Board of Pharmacy regulations. Must possess Pharmacy Technician Registration, as required by the Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration as well as National Pharmacy Training Certification.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit required.
- Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician program or institutional/retail pharmacy experience.
- Must currently be a Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Massachusetts with an active pharmacy technician license without restrictions from the MA Board of Pharmacy.
- Must currently have an active National Pharmacy Training Certification without restrictions.
- Must have Certified in Immunization Administration by an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (“ACPE”) accredited training program or become certified within 90 days of entering the role.
- Must complete Certified Pharmacy Technician Continuing Education (CE) credits per calendar year as required by National Pharmacy Technician Certification and in accordance with Pharmacy Staff License Monitoring and Maintenance of Credentials Policy
- Must not be listed on the Exclusion Database List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG).
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a retail pharmacy or outpatient pharmacy setting preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
SKILLS
- Must possess working knowledge of pharmacy operations and cash handling experience. Requires knowledge of laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice and patient confidentiality.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills are preferred.
Must be team oriented and demonstrate excellent customer service skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and colleagues.
