Position Details:

The Business Development Mana reports to the Managing Director of Business Development and is responsible for driving action across one of Kobre & Kim’s core business development (BD) functions in pursuit of the firm’s overall objective: increasing profitability by providing premium-priced, niche services that solve clients’ real problems. This role has a high level of autonomy/responsibility and frequent direct access to senior decision-makers (Founding Partners, senior business leaders, partners), which is unique in the legal industry. It calls for strong entrepreneurial, interpersonal and analytical skills with an emphasis on proactivity and confident judgment.

Responsibilities  

  • Manage the sales lifecycle from new matter origination through client engagement, focusing on assessing incoming opportunities to ensure they align with our business model.

  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to lawyers throughout the sales lifecycle including by providing recommendations on proposed strategy for cases, leveraging the firm’s resources and advising on commercial viability of incoming opportunities.

  • Develop a substantive understanding of applicable markets, key trends and developments relating to the firm’s various integrated offerings and products, while synthesizing and sharing findings with relevant lawyers to proactively pursue leads and/or enhance prospect of converting new business.

  • Collaborate with other product, office and Strategy department members to develop cross-selling opportunities, raise brand awareness through integrated Marketing & Communications campaigns for incoming opportunities, and work closely with Regional Managers to analyze distribution networks in order to capitalize on business sourcing opportunities.

  • Prepare business conflict analysis memoranda recommending a course of action to senior leadership for matters that display business sensitivities that may impact the firm’s current or prospective business and liaise with various stakeholders to enhance the same.

  • Project manage the external proposals process, including drafting presentation materials and coordinating strategy formulation among team members to ensure key objectives are met and firm messaging is aligned.

  • Create and maintain a library of core product-specific materials, experience lists, and tailored bios.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university

  • An unquenchable desire to learn and master new things (intellectual curiosity)

  • The desire to become a substantive expert;

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (written and verbal) skills; strong attention to detail;

  • Team-player with the ability to collaborate across multicultural groups from across global locations and across different levels in the firm;

  • Possess excellent follow through skills and demonstrate ability to anticipate and address business needs proactively;

  • Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and confidentiality;

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task workflow in a fast-paced environment; deep understanding of project management;

  • Strong in MS Office Suite skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed;

  • Occasional travel as needed

Company Description:

At the time of posting, the salary range for this role is $80,000 (minimum) – $100,000 (maximum). This range is based on a full-time work schedule. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus. The successful candidate’s actual salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, qualifications, licensure/certifications, training, skills, and market data.
