The Patient Care Associate (PCA) functions as an integral member of a unit team of patient care providers who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the Patient Care Coordinator-Registered Nurse (PCC-RN), the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA), and the Unit Clerical Associate (UCA), provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. Patients and their families will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members.
The Progressive Care Unit is an inpatient unit which provides highly skilled 24-hour care to patients who are critically ill. The patient population consists of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, peripheral vascular, nephrological and general medical/surgical pathologies. Individuals within this position must be able to function fully within the performance expectations defined for PCAs in the critical care setting.
Position Summary:
The PCA is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as supervised and directed by the PCC-RN. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the patient focused care team. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting patient care needs.
