SUMMARY: As a for-profit online education company, managing all design content is integral. As the products and services of K12 are diverse, the need to have a robust design language that layers up to a brand is critical for future growth. As the Head of Design, this role will involve leading a team of designers and collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and execute on the company’s design strategy. Working very closely with the Head of Copy and Head of Video, this role will be responsible for setting the creative vision and direction for the company’s products, services and content ensuring that the design output aligns with the overall brand and business objectives.
The Head of Design sits within the Brand & Creative team, reporting directly to the VP of Marketing responsible for Brand and Creative services.
This role will manage design resources across various platforms – K12, K12 partner schools, and additional K12 products and services. This includes leading design teams, developing and executing design strategy, collaborating with other teams to ensure design aligns with overall company goals. Additionally – this role includes:

- Leading a team of in-house and contract-based designers
- Partnering with the Head of Copy and Head of Video to formulate campaign direction and assure full-team alignment
- Developing and executing design strategy for the overarching Stride and K12 brands, including various projects and service lines.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure design aligns with overall company goals and achieves desired results in terms of messaging, sales, and growth.
- Utilizing data, testing, and research to inform design decisions.
- Managing the design team budget
- Partnering with Project Management team to delegate tasks based on team capacity and project load.
- Providing feedback and reviews on creative executions
- Participating in Brand & Creative Leadership Team meetings and collaborative efforts
- Keeping up to date with industry trends and technology advancements to inform design decisions
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 6 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) regular employees and/or contractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of experience in a design role at an agency or in-house team.
- 5+ years of experience managing a team
- A servant leader approach to team management and the ability to collaborate effectively with other teams within the company.
- Strong digital and UX/UI design expertise
- Strong strategic mindset, with the ability to develop and execute a design strategy aligning with the company's overall business objectives.
- A baseline knowledge of finance, and budgeting
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Ability to travel 10% of the time
- Ability to clear required background check

Compensation & Benefits: Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee’s salary level. Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position’s level and expected contribution, and the employee’s benefits elections. Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range.
We anticipate the salary range to be $139,191.00 to $239,712.00. Eligible employees may receive a bonus. This salary is not guaranteed, as an individual’s compensation can vary based on several factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.
