Exciting opportunity for an Assistant Professor of Clinical Full-time faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.  The scope of practice of a sex therapist in a cancer center involves the assessment and treatment of sexual health concerns that arise as a result of cancer diagnosis and treatment. These may include changes in physical or emotional responses related to intimacy, such as shifts in interest, comfort, sensation, or overall experience in addition to body image concerns, relationship strain, reproductive health (e.g., fertility and fertility preservation), and the psychological impact of illness on intimacy. A sex therapist provides evidence-based, patient-centered interventions through individual, couples, or group therapy, with a focus on improving communication, sexual function, and emotional well-being.

Job Functions:

  • Provide mental health services for patients experiencing anxiety, depression or difficulty coping following cancer diagnosis.   

  • Provide mental health screenings and conduct brief psychological interventions 

  • Provide mental health services, including psychological assessment, psychological testing, individual, group therapy and behavioral management 

  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings 

  • Identify patients requiring psychiatric evaluation 

  • Assist in the development of culturally sensitive mental health services

Supervision Received: 

Reports to the Department Medical Director of Psycho-Oncology for SCCC    

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education: Psy.D. or Ph.D.; valid State of Florida Licensed Psychologist 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  

  • Experience in behavior medicine. 

  • Prior experience working with interdisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
