Location: Santa Cruz, CA (onsite)
Position Type: Full-Time
Travel: 10–15% (primarily to Mexico, typically max 0-1x per quarter)

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the General Ledger (GL), performing month-end close activities, and preparing financial reports. This role involves working with moderate to high-level complexity, requiring accuracy, strong analytical skills, and proactive communication. Bilingual proficiency (English and Spanish) is used to communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and staff. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Closing: Perform full-cycle accounting, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
  • Journal Entries & Reconciliations: Prepare and review complex journal entries and perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Bilingual Communication: Act as the liaison with Spanish-speaking internal teams to clarify accounting issues and financial data.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee high-volume AP/AR, ensure accurate vendor payments, and manage invoicing.
  • Compliance & Tax: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and assist with tax filing (1099s, CA tax regulations).
  • Analysis & Reporting: Perform variance analysis, prepare financial statements, and provide data-driven insights to senior leadership.
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors and maintain internal control procedures.
  • Supervision: Mentor or review the work of junior accounting staff 

Qualifications

  • Languages: Full fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken) required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a senior or lead role.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced MS Excel skills required (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of GAAP; CPA or equivalent certification is a plus
  • Experience using AI and API’s to improve processes a plus.
