UMass Boston invites applications for a clinical assistant professor who will hold a full-time 9-month non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Nursing. Our programs focus on health in urban populations of all ages and target improving health equity in populations at risk for healthcare disparities. For more information go to www.umb.edu/academics/cnhsThe position is designed for a doctoral-prepared faculty member who will provide leadership as director of the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program for the Department of Nursing. Responsibilities include directing the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program and classroom learning. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner director is responsible for curriculum development and oversight of the quality of educational outcomes. This responsibility is in the context of the Manning College of Nursing & Health Sciences strategic plan and accreditation goals and outcomes. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner director reports to the Chair of the Department of Nursing.
Candidates will be expected to employ a variety of teaching strategies in the classroom settings to promote clinical judgement and achievement of course and program objectives with diverse student learners. In the Scholarship of Practice lines, faculty teach seven (7) 3-credit bearing courses per year in a 4:3 ratio (21 credits).
Expectations:
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program Director
- Provides leadership and management in implementing the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Responsible for developing and evaluating the curriculum.
- Collaborates with the CIPO office related to students clinical placements.
- Provides mentorship to faculty and evaluation of faculty performance.
- Responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program policies.
- Participates in the marketing, recruitment and orientation of the students.
- Monitors and advises the students related to progression and completion of study.
- Serves as a role model of professional nursing leadership for students and faculty.
- Guides the curriculum and systematic evaluation plan to meet the accreditation requirements of AACN/CCNE.
Teaching
- Demonstrates support of the mission, vision, and values of the University and the Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS).
- Participates in curriculum evaluation and development.
- Assists students in the application of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and specific clinical competencies.
- Develops and implements methods to evaluate the achievement of course learning objectives.
- Collaborates with relevant administrative and support faculty for assistance and coordination with development of remediation plans when students are not meeting course or clinical objectives.
- Is familiar with specific course learning objectives and requirements, required clinical experiences, clinical clearances, and MCNHS and university policies and procedures.
- Participates in ongoing faculty development programs.
- Effectively uses and is knowledgeable of current e-learning technologies.
- Advises students throughout the calendar year.
Scholarship
- Remains current in theory, scholarship, and best practices.
- Maintains a record of professional activity and scholarship.
- Develops opportunities to integrate innovative teaching methodologies into education, research, and practice.
Service
- Attends program, department and clinical faculty meetings.
- Demonstrates service to the MCNHS through participation on committees as needed.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of new students.
- Agrees to additional responsibilities as mutually determined.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must possess an earned doctorate in nursing (PhD or DNP) and current certification as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and be eligible for RN licensure in Massachusetts.
- Teaching experience in higher education is required.
- Theoretical and clinical expertise in nursing education.
- Experience with teaching using multiple learning platforms.
- Preference will be given to applicants with peer-reviewed, practice-oriented scholarship.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, assessment, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
- Current CPR, CORI, and other documentation as required.
