Research Technician to monitor conditions on pipeline rights-of-ways (ROWs) and other functional landscapes to understand how ecosystem services are provided and identify opportunities for conservation gains in these working landscapes.  Specific tasks to include pollinator (native bees and butterflies) surveys, vegetation sampling (forbs & grasses), soil observations and sampling, quantifying soil carbon, and general soil lab investigations.  The field crew leader will also assume responsibilities such as coordinating other technicians, planning work schedules, communicating with PIs, and managing data.  The field crew leader will be working under guidance from the project PIs. 

Field season transportation is provided. Start (August 11th, 2025) and end (August 15th, 2026) dates are tentative subject to field sampling conditions and project needs and will be discussed with potential candidates during interviews.

Qualifications: A valid driver’s license is required. It is not assumed that the applicant will have a full range of experience with all the skills listed above; however, the successful applicant must demonstrate a willingness and curiosity to learn.  Applicants with proficiency in identification and knowledge of Eastern U.S. flowering plants and butterflies will be given preference. Additionally, applicants with soil sampling on right-of-ways and soil analyses will be given preference.  Onsite training for various survey protocols will be provided, but previous monitoring experience is preferred. Individuals will be required to work in all types of conditions and be required to walk moderate distances within field sites. Applicants must possess a strong work ethic, positive attitude, self-motivation, and willingness to work in harsh outdoor conditions.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.
