Position Summary Information

Job Goal
To fully support the mission of Northeast Iowa Community College through the functions of teaching, service and scholarship. To provide effective instruction to ensure academic programming attains student learning outcomes and prepares students for successful transition into the workforce or transfer to a post-secondary institution. To carry out assigned responsibilities to ensure academic programs are sustainable and aligned with accreditation standards. 
Qualifications
  1. Must be a REGISTERED Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in good standing.
  2. A  baccalaureate degree  from  an  academic  institution  accredited  by  a  regional  or  national  accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  3. A minimum of four years recent work experience as a registered respiratory therapist required with least two years in clinical respiratory care.
  4. A minimum of two years of experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program, either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
  5. Must be knowledgeable in respiratory care job skills, as evidenced by education and experience. 
  6. Must be able to instruct and assess student learning and performance of the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC) core curriculum. 
  7. Must be able to appropriately and sufficiently evaluate and ensure student achievement in their clinical experiences.
  8. Must be able to meet the instructor and clinical coordinator credentialing requirements of COARC and Northeast Iowa Community College’s Quality Faculty Plan (QFP).
Duties and Responsibilities
1.       Remain current with methods and developments in the content area.
2.       Possess the expertise to deliver courses in multiple formats; face-to-face, online, hybrid
3.       Utilize current technologies to support teaching; 
4.       Complete delegated teaching assignment in accordance with guidelines for teaching format.
5.       Meet all class, office and college commitments.
6.       Participate in the development of a cohesive general education program and/or career and technical program.  
7.       Evidence a commitment to the assessment of student learning.  
8.       Evidence a commitment to ongoing program evaluation.
9.       Maintain a classroom environment that supports retention and completion. 
10.   Assist in the placement and success of students. 
 11.   Maintain credentials and expertise in accordance with College guidelines and accreditation standards.
 12.   Comply with State and Federal Guidelines. 
13.   Participate in program orientations, promotion and recruiting/enrollment events. 
14.   Contribute as a member of the College community.   
Essential Functions
15.   Perform Clinical Coordinator responsibilities within a CoARC accredited respiratory care program.
a.       Teach classroom, lab, and clinical coursework in accordance with objectives of course outlines set forth by the department and CoARC Core Curriculum for Respiratory Care.
b.       Must have regular and consistent contact with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates in all program locations.
c.        Support and enforce student policies as directed in the student policy and procedures manual.  
d.       Keep accurate inventories of all equipment and supplies and promptly report repairs needed.
e.       Serve as an academic advisor for respiratory care students.
f.         Collaborate with supervisory/management personnel of the various clinical training sites.
g.       Select and approve appropriate student clinical sites and provide orientation and support for adjunct instructors and on-site supervisors.
h.       Perform regular visits to clinical education sites and provide oversight of students’ clinical experiences, including on-site assessment of student learning and quality of learning opportunities, following CoARC standards. 
i.         Insure appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in the clinical experiences.
j.         Maintain CoARC required statistics of clinical rotations.
k.        Represent the college in a professional manner in clinical settings.
