Job Purpose:  To provide support to attorneys in the SMP Business & Legal Affairs Department.
 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Work with the litigation team in the Business & Legal Affairs department and our US digital group to reduce copyright infringement of SMP’s catalog and obtain compensation for SMP’s songwriters.  Tasks will include:

    • Researching and documenting infringing uses on social media platforms and other internet sites

    • Confirming relevant rights.

    • Working with SMP’s worldwide databases

    • Gathering relevant copyright information and contracts.

    • Working with other departments to obtain relevant information.

  • Draft legal documents, including copyright takedown notices, cease-and-desist letters and other correspondence.

  • Assist members of the sample clearance team, including by managing a sample clearance database, setting up weekly listening meetings, and fielding general rights inquiries.

  • Work closely with outside law firms and vendors, including in the context of discovery and other filings for litigations.

  • Participate in calls and meetings related to the above activities.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors, other attorneys in the department, and department head.
     

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree required. Prior experience as a paralegal a plus.

Special Skills/Requirements:

  • MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and the general ability to navigate new technological systems

  • Strong experience with social media platforms

  • Attention to detail a must

  • Work autonomously

  • Problem solving skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to handle several projects simultaneously

  • Ability to prioritize, handle heavy workload

  • Must be motivated, responsible and able to exercise good judgment

  • Must be able to take initiative

  • Music business and/or music business administration experience a plus
