Junior Structural Engineer

Overview:   Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Building Inspection Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.
SummaryThe Junior Structural Engineer will perform field inspections and will approve or reject all phases of construction, monitoring contractor schedules to ensure milestones are met and resolve potential problems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform structural inspections regarding the following structural elements: concrete masonry units (CMU), cast-in place concrete, reinforcing steel, post-tension cables, precast/prestress members, structural steel, and wood framing. 
• Ability to read/understand structural plans and specifications. 
• Report data in a complete, timely, and understandable fashion.
• Follow all company safety procedures and policies. 
• Perform forensic investigations to determine the cause and origin of damage to residential and commercial buildings.
• Research technical publications and literature in support of evaluations, and apply engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
• Provide detailed forensic engineering reports outlining cause and origin of damage.
• Manage multiple projects and assume responsibility for project execution within timeframes.
• Communicate with administrative staff and clients to provide timelines and project updates on a consistent basis

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) 
• E.I. (Engineering Intern License)

Required Qualifications:

• Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria), may or may not be required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role
• Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Architect
• Engineering Intern License
• Experience in 40-year or older Building Safety Inspection Recertification
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to defend and support conclusions
• Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and correspondence and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
• Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
• Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
