POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining and managing all cost expenditures related to the manufacturing process, producing detailed cost reports and analyses, gross margin analysis, and inventory analysis and reconciliation. The role requires an understanding of various costing methods, ERP systems, and inventory valuation.  The Cost Accountant will report directly to the Director of Accounting and work closely with the Materials and Engineering departments.

Requirements

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Assists with implementation of the ERP system

• Maintains and audits the item list and item costs

• Reviews new BOMs and Routings for accuracy

• Establishes and maintains labor and overhead rates

• Establishes and maintains the cost update process

• Reports on BOM cost variances

• Performs monthly inventory reconciliation and prepares book to perpetual adjusting journal entries

• Validates cost of goods sold during the close process

• Analyzes the gross margin

• Acts as the accounting lead for annual physical inventory and monthly cycle counts

• Performs annual cost roll and inventory revaluation

• Assists with month- and year-end close

• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in Cost Accounting 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• 4 years’ experience with ERP systems

• Experience in a manufacturing environment

• Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail 

• Strong time management skills 

• Other duties as assigned
