Mechanical QCx Engineer

As a Mechanical QCx Engineer with LotusWorks, you will play a critical role in supporting the commissioning and verification of mechanical systems throughout all QCx levels. You will assist in testing, documentation, and troubleshooting to ensure all systems meet design intent, performance criteria, and compliance standards. This position requires close collaboration with vendors, project managers, and cross-discipline engineering teams to deliver high-quality and fully functional systems.

Responsibilities:

General QCx Support

• Participate and support the QCx process through Levels 1–3 of the project scope.

• Assist with vendor coordination, testing schedules, and system readiness tracking.

• Review design specifications, submittals, and as-built drawings for accuracy.

• Verify that equipment and systems are installed in accordance with design and applicable codes.

• Record non-conformance items and assist in issue resolution through detailed documentation.

• Support communication and alignment across disciplines throughout commissioning.

• Maintain awareness of LEED specifications and sustainability considerations.

Planning & Coordination

• Review design documents, commissioning plans, and mechanical equipment specifications.

• Coordinate with design engineers, contractors, and trade partners to align schedules and deliverables.

• Track and report commissioning progress for assigned systems and components.

• Support project timelines by prioritizing tasks and identifying potential delays or conflicts.

Mechanical Systems Commissioning

• Execute QCx Levels 1–3 procedures on systems such as HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, fire suppression, and process cooling.

• Verify system operation against design performance parameters.

• Support commissioning tests for chillers, pumps, fans, and heat exchangers.

Testing & Documentation

• Support vendors and trade partners during Functional Performance Testing (FPT).

• Record test data, deviations, and troubleshooting steps for review.

• Maintain accurate and complete commissioning documentation, including reports and turnover packages.

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

• Identify and help resolve equipment and control system issues during startup and testing.

• Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions with engineering and vendor teams.

• Communicate findings and ensure resolution tracking in alignment with project documentation standards.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, ASHRAE, NFPA, and client-specific standards.

• Verify installations meet mechanical and safety design requirements.

• Promote and enforce EHS compliance throughout all QCx activities.

• Confirm systems remain de-energized until proper testing and documentation are completed.

 

Skills Required:

• Mechanical Systems Knowledge – Solid understanding of HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, and fire suppression systems.

• Commissioning Fundamentals – Knowledge of QCx Levels 1–3 processes including FAT, PFC, and FPT.

• Technical Documentation – Proficiency in reviewing design specs, equipment submittals, and system drawings.

• Testing & Analysis – Ability to record, interpret, and analyze system test data accurately.

• Troubleshooting Skills – Capable of diagnosing equipment performance issues and supporting resolution.
