Sr. Power Electronics Engineer
SupernalAbout the role
Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. We fuse research in autonomy, robotics, aviation and services to define a new category of mobility for the world’s communities. We believe in creative thinking and collaboration to help build a better mobility experience for everyone, improving people’s ability to move – whether for work or play.
What we do:
The Sr. Power Electronics Engineer is responsible for hardware development of the electric motor controller power electronics and will be involved closely with control algorithm and software development. This position will work closely with Battery Technology, Flight Controls, Test & Evaluation, and Airframe teams.
This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.
What you can do:
- Lead design and development of motor inverter power electronics. This includes, but is not limited to, defining power conversion topology, control interfaces and circuitry, and developing control algorithms.
- Collaborate closely with suppliers on design evaluation and validation of inverter hardware in order to meet technical specifications and program timelines
- Assess development risks and coordinate mitigation strategies
- Lead simulation and analysis efforts of electric drives and high voltage power electronics
- Work with system architecture and safety teams to develop requirements and specifications for motor control system and cascade down to components of the embedded systems
- Define and mature mechanical, electrical, and communication interfaces with aircraft systems to include airframe, wiring, electric motors, and vehicle management systems
- Work closely with the motor control team to outline controller requirements, develop and implement control strategies, and tune controller algorithms to optimize performance
- Assist in developing the safety of flight artifacts, including system safety assessments, fault trees, and FMEAs
- Provide hands-on support to model-in-the-loop (MIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) test execution and troubleshooting
- Other duties as assigned
