APP Position at Duke Employee Occupational Health & Wellness

 

Duke Employee Occupational Health & Wellness (EOHW) within the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Practitioner for a full-time clinical position.  Duke EOHW provides services for over 48,000 faculty and staff of the Duke University Health System and Duke University.

 

JOB DUTIES:

• Clinical work diagnosing and treating work related injuries, assessing occupational exposures including those to chemicals or infectious agents as well as special work risks, and performing DOT physicals, fitness for duty evaluations, interpretation of drug screens ,  travel health reviews, workplace allergy evaluations, and others.
• Work closely with the EOHW leadership team performing health reviews for employee requests for reasonable accommodations under the ADA.  Obtain background medical and functional information and communicate as needed with the treating healthcare provider. Attends multidisciplinary disability case management meetings.
• Review and approve FMLA requests as a member of the EOHW FMLA management team.
• Contribute to EOHW clinical effectiveness by identifying and improving both short and long term issues related to quality of medical care and customer service.
• Participate in QI reviews and projects related to workflow and patient care
• This position may require provision of services at more than one clinic site.

 

JOB SKILLS:

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to diagnose medical and surgical problems and prescribe necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the supervising physician.
• Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings.
• Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
• Perform health reviews for employee requests for reasonable accommodations under the ADA and leave in accordance with FMLA.  Works closely with the EOHW leadership team performing these health reviews. 
• Carry out therapeutic procedures such as wound suturing and dressing changes; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress.
• Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by EOHW leadership team; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
• May make work assignments for nursing and technical personnel; review the work of other staff; train new personnel; develop new clinical protocols when needed.
• Participate in teaching allied healthcare students in occupational and environmental medicine specialty care.

 

Work requires graduation from an accredited PA or NP school. 2-3 years' experience as Advanced Practice Provider (APP), strongly preferred.

•             Current NC Licensure

•             Current DEA & BLS licensure

•             Current CPR / AED certification

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Preferred 

Work requires a bachelor's degree in Health Science and a Physician Assistant Certificate of Registration with the North Carolina Medical Board or be certification eligible, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certificati
