Job Summary:This position provides professional and technical guidance on safety matters to management and other employees of ADOT. The position has primary responsibility for all agency employees and operations within the boundaries of Southeast PDO District, South Central PDO District, and Southwest PDO District (Southern Arizona) and supports all divisions and operations within ADOT as needed.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:Participate in incident investigation and review by assisting management in conducting root cause analysis and determining corrective actions as assigned.
Conduct safety assistance visits and inspections of ADOT facilities and projects. Recommend improvement to reduce the risk of injury and ensure compliance with applicable safety code requirements (OSHA, National Fire Codes, etc). Provide support and follow up to verify that corrective actions have been completed.
Develop, maintain and present safety training. Demonstrate safe work techniques to employees. Attend and participate in safety meetings to communicate and solicit safety ideas and/or concerns. Determine potential problem areas and provide guidance in proper safety procedures. Support employee safety committees in promoting safe work practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge of:
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, rules, interpretations.
• Agency policies, rules and procedures related to safe performance of ADOT activities.
• Technologies that can be used to perform environmental sampling.
• Building, bridge, and highway construction techniques, procedures and the hazards created during the different phases of construction.
• Building, bridge, and highway maintenance practices and the hazards created during work activities.
Skill in:
• Recognize hazards and develop practical solutions to minimize employee exposure.
• Communicate degree of risk based on observations.
• Effectively present safety training materials.
• Write effective reports on technical subjects, policies, and instructional documents.
• Operate and maintain environmental sampling equipment.
Ability to:
• Recognize health, environmental, and physical hazards in ADOT work places.
• Recognize when data integrity during sampling and studies is questionable or valid.
• Select sampling equipment or technology to provide adequate information to evaluate a hazard.
• Analyze contracts, specifications, safety plans, and written procedures to verify relevancy to work activity, possible future hazards, and effectiveness of implementation.
• Interpret complex regulations and codes and apply them to ADOT situations.
• Develop and lead employee safety committees in productive activities.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or 5 years equivalent full time work experience.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
