We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
In this role, you will be responsible for defining the end-to-end Concept of Operations for our Lunar missions acting as the “flight director” of the design phase of programs. Lunar missions are divided into a series of operational phases that cover operational activities from pre-launch to lunar landing and mission completion. Each phase lead acts as the integrated vehicle point of contact and subject matter expert for their phase (e.g. Launch Phase, Descent Phase, Ascent Phase, etc.) responsible for defining and owning the mission plan that satisfies Blue and NASA mission objectives. For your mission phase you will: Act as the integrated systems point of contact and subject matter expert for a Lunar operation (e.g. Launch Phase, Descent Phase, Ascent Phase, etc.), define and own the mission plan, concept of operations, and design reference mission(s); define vehicle requirements and external interfaces; identify, handle, and mitigate risks; define and lead execution of the verification and validation plan; identify and track key performance metrics, and define and carry out a technical review plan. Phase Leads are Systems Thinkers who proactively involve themselves in the design and development of systems that are active during the various mission phases. To be successful, experience in a broad range of disciplines and at least some knowledge of operations will be required.
This opportunity reports to the Mission Management and Integration Office (MMIO).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ownership of ConOps for a mission phase from concept through to validation
- Development of mission level requirements that drive vehicle design
- Identification and management of architecture design trades, risks, and opportunities
- Facilitation of informal and formal design reviews and meetings both within Blue and with the NASA customer
- Organization of engineering support within MMIO and the vehicles teams to provide an integrated solution at the mission level
- Leadership of the mission timeline and activity development for the phase to include accounting for continency scenarios
- Integration with Mission Operations and mission simulation teams to support validation activities ranging from standalone simulations to human-in-the-loop evaluations
- Identification of mission performance goals (i.e. technical performance measures and keep performance indicators) and monitoring of current analysis trends for the phase
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Aerospace, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering, or related technical subject area
- Firm grasp of the principles, concepts, and methods of systems engineering, such as concept development, requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operations
- Knowledge of space vehicles, reentry vehicles, propulsion systems, and spacecraft systems development
