SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE: This position is responsible for collaborating with the Clinic Managers to develop and maintain a comprehensive training program for all clinical technicians to include understanding and execution of ophthalmic skills, customer service objectives, clinic flow, EHR template understanding, and physician documentation criteria. This position is also responsible for collaborating with the Clinic Managers and/or other designated staff to develop and execute specialty training courses.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Demonstrate superior execution of ophthalmic skill sets and customer service skills, documentation, EHR, MU/MIPS and physician criteria.

2. Work with Clinic Managers in developing and maintaining a comprehensive training program to include ophthalmic skills, customer service, clinic flow, use and efficiency in EHR system, and physician documentation requirements. Training program will be aimed at working with and supporting staff to improve consistency, efficiency, productivity, and service.

3. Assess, train, mentor, and coordinate resources/education of newly hired/added clinical technicians and existing clinical technicians in accordance with the approved training program.

4. Work with the Clinic Managers to complete annual competency exams: testing and assessment of new or on-going skills for new and existing clinical technicians.

5. Evaluate clinic flow and if needed support areas by helping work as a support technician to ensure efficiency and decrease patient wait times.

6. Set good examples for others by demonstrating a professional, caring, and cheerful attitude with patients and staff.

7. Set a good example and improve productivity by displaying an appropriate sense of urgency.

8. Demonstrate and mentor effective communication. Contribute to clinic-wide goal of co-worker teamwork and respect to sustain outstanding employee and patient relations through strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

9. Participate in professional, skill and business-related continuing education, as required.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 and have a High School or General Education diploma (GED)
  • Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R) from the State of Washington within 60 days of employment.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or agreement to complete COA upon eligibility.
  • Demonstrated experience with ophthalmological skills, testing, customer service objectives, terminology, and medications; insurance plans and referral requirements, MU/MIPS criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of Dr. Area protocols and clinic flow plans; proper documentation to meet patients, physician, billing, and MU/PQRS MIPS requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook; EHR software and ability to learn other programs as needed.
