Job Description:

The Comprehensive Cancer Control Program Manager (HPM I H74241) position is dedicated to reducing the incidence, morbidity, and mortality associated with cancer across the state.

The Program Manager leads in creating and updating the Nebraska Cancer Plan, which outlines strategic goals and priorities for cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship and coordinates with various state and local organizations, healthcare providers, and community groups to ensure cancer control efforts are comprehensive and collaborative. This position organizes data-driven insights to inform policy decisions and program improvements.


 

The Comprehensive Cancer Control Program Manager:

  • Works in collaboration with a coalition of stakeholders to implement the Nebraska State Cancer Plan according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines;
  • Administers the Federal grant through strategic planning, organization, implementation, reporting, and evaluation of all program components; 
  • Directs and monitors the technical operations, budgets, and activities necessary to support the program subrecipients;
  • Coordinates services with local, State, and Federal agencies, health professionals and service agencies.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/training in public administration, health sciences, and experience in an agency organization with responsibility for planning, implementation, budgeting, monitoring, evaluating, and marketing a program or service.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimally, a Bachelor's Degree in public or community health, public administration, healthcare, nutrition, dietetics, or related field and 1 year of experience working in a public or community health, public administration, healthcare, or related field. Experience managing federal grants and contracts/sub-awards collaboratives, etc. A Master's Degree in the above fields is preferred.

Other: Driver's License required.


     

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health planning and implementation; the principles of grant writing, reporting, and grant administration; 10 essential public health services; contract and subaward writing, monitoring, and management; and techniques of developing partnerships and collaborations.
      • Ability to maintain accurate and thorough records; prepare grant proposals and reports; interpret and apply federal grant requirements, agency rules, policies and procedures;
      • Ability to communicate effectively; design educational and informational materials, training aids, and presentations; plan and lead group sessions;
      • Ability to prioritize and manage time; problem solve and make decisions; balance needs, requirements, and work load for multiple projects; self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision.
