We are hiring! Atkins is seeking a Senior Archaeologist to join our Cultural Resources team. This position is not location specific, but the ideal candidate will be able to deploy as needed to state in the Great Basin region and California.
The selected candidate for this position will apply their archaeological knowledge and experience toward the preparation and review of environmental documents in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other relevant environmental laws on Department of Defense projects.

How will you contribute to the team?
- Lead a cultural resources team with full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and executing assignments. Responsible for identifying clients, marketing programs, initiating, preparing, and submitting proposals, and managing projects.
- Define project scopes and budgets.
- Regularly manage, minimally, the cultural resources portion of projects.
- Plan and organize the work of junior staff, field techs, and other technical support staff.
- Oversee all site evaluations for eligibility in the National Register of Historic Places, in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other relevant environmental laws for all junior staff.
- Conduct technical training and serve as a mentor to less experienced personnel.
- Assess effects to sites, including working with design professionals and overall project team to avoid or minimize impacts in accordance with Section 106.
- Conduct quality control checks.
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies and tribal governments.
- Maintain task schedules for assigned projects, including a list of all required archaeology documentation prioritized by project baseline schedules.
- Must be prepared to spend time in the field and travel to project sites, with some overnight visits required. Projects will generally be in the Great Basin region but could be elsewhere throughout the United States, as needed.
What will you contribute?
- Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field. Must meet Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) Standards.
- 10+ years of full-time professional archaeology experience, including conducting field surveys and experience with identification and evaluation of historic and/or precontact period sites.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and carry projects to completion.
- Excellent written, technical, and interpersonal skills. A writing sample will be required as part of the application process.
- General understanding of the following: Department of Defense, infrastructure, federal, state and local governments, and/or regulatory/compliance.
- Intermediate-level ArcGIS experience is required.
- Familiarity with reading transportation engineering plans is recommended.
- Prior Florida Department of Defense experience is highly desired.
