Materials Engineering Intern - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Euclid, OH
Provide the Materials Engineering group with hands-on, technical and administrative support of Materials Engineering functions. A basic understanding of metallurgical principles is desired, including material properties, materials testing, phase transformation and heat treating. Attention to detail and thoroughness of work are critical. This position reports to the Materials Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Hands-on heat treatment of tooling and R&D material.
- Perform & document furnace temperature uniformity surveys.
- Hands-on and administrative support of materials-related projects/studies/investigations including forging, thermal processing, plating, corrosion and cleaning processes.
- Interpret/understand material, processing and testing specifications/standards.
- Ability to research and understand metallurgical phenomena.
- Materials-related data analysis and database creation/management.
- Material sample inventorying.
- Possible metallurgical laboratory support.
- Work with Materials, NDE, Quality, Purchasing, Floor Supervisors/Personnel and Suppliers as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrollment into a Materials Science and Engineering BS program.
- Attention to detail and self-motivation to complete tasks thoroughly.
- Strong verbal skills and clear, concise compositional skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
The base salary range for this position in Ohio at the start of employment is expected to be between $21.50/hour and $29.50/hour per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
