POSITION: Working Leader, Distribution

DEPARTMENT:    Maintenance

PAY SCHEDULE:   $53.50 per hour      

LOCATION: Easthampton, MA

Responsibilities

Locator Duties:

Respond, diagnose and remedy pressure calls. 

Perform any research needed to ensure accurate mark-outs. 

Complete all necessary paperwork with mark-out results to meet 72 hours compliance. 

Perform all duties as required in leakage inspection by mobile or walking survey. 

Responsible for maintaining leakage records. 

Check both locating and leakage detection equipment to assure good working condition.

The individual in this position will be responsible for driving to various locations throughout the day, using Company approved locating equipment, setting up job sites and marking pipe locations in requested limits of job site. 

Perform leak investigations, leak surveys and encroachments as required. 

Screen Dig Safe requests and do any research needed to perform accurate mark out and complete all necessary paperwork with mark out results. 

Responsibilities will also include reading blueprints, sketches, work orders, etc.

In addition, meet with contractors and city engineers on large jobs. 

The individual in the position will also respond to third party damages, assist in the investigation reports. 

Locate and repair both indoor and outdoor gas leaks.

Working Leader Duties:

Organize Distribution personnel at the job site and work in cooperation with them.

Responsible for completing work orders, draft field sketches and other related Distribution Department duties.

Execute required reports and forms both manually and electronically.

Maintain truck stock and make sure necessary materials are available to complete assigned work and comply with Company procedures.

Perform assignments as required under direction of a Supervisor.

Responsible for installations, repair, locating and replacement of gas facilities. 

Will work on customer premises to turn gas on/off; read meters; use pressure gauges to test for line leaks and gas detection instruments to locate leaks; perform tie-ins, leakage repair and other construction operations, and locating of company owned facilities.

Additional responsibilities include establishing or re-establishing natural gas services to a customer. 

Including testing and inspecting service/ house lines and lighting appliances according to policy/procedures and approved codes. 

Perform work on gas meters, disconnects gas service at meter or curb valve.  

Responsible for the installation and removal of gas meters, meter move-outs, meter settings and regulators.

Follows all safety rules, standards and regulations. 

Perform other related duties as assigned in accordance with Agreement.

Requirements

  • Must possess and retain a Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License (Class A)
  • Must have (3) or more years experience in the Gas Distribution Department
  • Must possess and retain 2A hoisting license
  • Must be knowledgeable and competent in all phases of equipment and tools used in the installation of gas mains and services.
  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Must learn and understand all codes and policies pertaining to service operations and customer installed facilities.
  • Must have knowledge of Company operating procedures and related paperwork, safety procedures and be able to use this knowledge in job performance.
  • Must be regular in attendance; maintain proper appearance with company uniform.
  • Must be able to meet DOT requirements and applicable OQ requirements. 
  • Be willing and able to accept and satisfactorily complete training courses offered by the Company
  • Must have the ability to deal with customers and public respectfully.
  • Must be able to understand oral and written communications and prepare legible orders.
  • Must have the ability to show good judgment and exercise tact in dealing with the job assigned and customers.
  • Must be in good physical condition, regular in attendance, and maintain a good safety record. 
  • Responsible for keeping assigned Company vehicle clean and properly maintained.
  • Able to accept responsibility to carry out assignments and perform duties without direct supervision.
  • Must be willing and able to accept shift, on-call, emergency response, emergency assignments and work overtime
  • Work in all types of weather conditions per collective bargaining agreement.
  • Have the ability to lead & direct other successfully in the performance of their job duties, including the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
