About the role

Wage Range Salary: $22.36 - $29.00

Essential Functions:

  • Provides assistance to and coverage for Patient Registration, registering and checking in patients.
  • Notifies appropriate program staff of patients being seen that have special notations regarding patient accounts or eligibility.
  • Verifies and determines patient insurance/alternate resource coverage, and eligibility for services. Copies all insurance cards.
  • Accurately and timely enters all pertinent information into the Electronic Patient Management (EPM) system. Reviews for accuracy and completeness.
  • Performs insurance follow up for billing, review aged reports, contacts carriers, corrects errors and provide documentation as needed.
  • Provides scanning and clerical duties for Business Office programs including, but not limited to Laserfiche, and the EPM.
  • Cross-trains and provides backup coverage for GRHWC front office secretarial staff and back office, Business Office functions.
  • Answers phones, routes calls, schedules appointments and takes messages.
  • Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate person or department.
  • Makes copies, collects payments, sorts and assembles information.
  • Organizes and files documents according to department standards and procedures.
  • Operates a variety of general office equipment, which may include, but not limited to computer, calculator, fax machine, copy machines, multi-line phone, etc. to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Assists staff with client services related to patient/client records.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Assists with GRHWC events.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • Requires two (2) years of specialized skills training in data entry, medical secretary field, billing field or closely related field.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

  • This position may require driving.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-10 coding preferred.
  • Requires knowledge of Electronic Patient Management System, standard office equipment such as fax machine, copy machine, visa machine, 10 key, multi-line telephone and Laserfiche.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal requirements and restrictions pertaining to the maintenance of medical records, as well as facility policies, HIPAA and other federal regulations.
  • Required to comply with company attendance standards to fulfill essential functions.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan. 
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
  • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required
