Unregistered Histotechnician

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor, the Unregistered Histotechnician supports the flow of anatomic pathology specimens, which may include tissue embedding, microtomy, frozen section cryotomy, and staining.

• Additional Details: Will consider Registered Histotechnician ($26.47-$40.87, based on experience) and Registered Histotechnologist ($32.02-$49.44 based on experience) candidates.

Job Details:

• Organizes and manages the flow of anatomic pathology specimens through lab from specimen receipt through preparation of final diagnostic slides
• Specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, frozen sections cryotomy, staining and other duties as assigned
• Support QA by monitoring indicators such as quality control, temperatures, and instrument failures.
• Perform instrument maintenance and troubleshoot and take corrective action when standards are not met
• May assist with surgical pathology gross examination dependent on education verification and onsite specific competencies
• Execute tasks in detailed and timely manner

Minimum Qualifications:

Unregistered Histotechnician:

• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last five years, or 60 semester hours or equivalent, including a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or Associate degree with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both). Education will be verified by Quality Assurance Manager or Director.

Registered Histotechnician:

• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last five years, or 60 semester hours or equivalent, including a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or associate degree with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both). Education will be verified by Quality Assurance Manager or Director.
• Histotechnician ASCP certification, or equivalent

Registered Histotechnologist:

• Bachelor's Degree with a combination of 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both)
• Histotechnologist ASCP certification, or equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications to perform New York Testing:

• Successful completion of an Associate’s Degree in a Histotechnician Program
• Successful completion of an Associate’s Degree in a chemical, physical or biological science AND 1 year of histology experience or training within the past 5 years or successful completion of a 9 month (minimum) histotechnician program
• Successful completion of a Bachelors degree in chemical, physical or biological science including a combination or 30 hours in biology and chemistry AND 1 year of histology experience or training within the past 5 years or successful completion of a 9 month (minimum) histotechnician program

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous pathology or histology experience
• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last five years, or 60 semester hours or equivalent, including a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or associate degree with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both). Education will be verified by Quality Assurance Manager or Director.
• Histotechnician ASCP certification, or equivalent
