Summary

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! This position supports the Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) as the Mechanical/Ventilation Subject Matter Expert (SME). The selected candidate will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair malfunctioning ventilation systems, apparatus, and components. This involves using test equipment and hand tools to address issues with duct heaters, motor controllers, motors, TRVs, 2PDs, and all associated ventilation equipment. This is a full-time position, located in Norfolk, VA.

What You Will Do

  • Considered subject matter expert in mechanical systems. May work directly with customer or customer representatives, attend meetings and deploy for special projects.
  • Responsible for procedure-based mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and testing of equipment.
  • Ability to manage, oversee, schedule and assign tasks to one or more multiple jobs. 
  • Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
  • Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time. Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change. Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Experience with hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Proficiency in interpreting mechanical plans, blueprints, specifications, and equipment shop drawings.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of mechanical equipment and ventilation systems, including expertise in design, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and/or construction of vent ducting accessories.
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Confidential Security clearance. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access. 

 

Preferred: Bonus Points For

  • A current, active DoD Confidential security clearance or higher. 
  • Previous shipboard experience. 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
