About the role

ASRC Federal NetCentric Technology is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking IPS/Proxy Security Engineer to support our federal government clients. The ideal candidate must hold an active Secret Security Clearance and be eligible to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.
In this role, you will be responsible for deploying, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing Palo Alto intrusion prevention systems (IPS) and proxy solutions to safeguard enterprise network assets. Key responsibilities include gathering critical asset details, monitoring network activity, analyzing threats, configuring security policies, and conducting in-depth event analysis to mitigate risks. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring continuous protection against cyber threats through proactive security measures, fine-tuning detection systems, and automating responses to security incidents. This is a Hybrid position in Seaside, California, requiring a local presence.


Responsibilities:

System Integration & Configuration– Gather asset details, connect devices to the IDS/IPS management center, and configure access control policies to regulate network traffic and detection settings.

Threat Analysis & Response– Monitor network activity for malicious behavior, analyze threat exposure, customize correlation policies, and implement automated responses to security violations.

Performance Optimization– Tune decoders, preprocessors, and rules to minimize false positives, optimize system effectiveness, and enhance security event analysis.

Reporting & Compliance– Generate weekly reports detailing deployment status, security alerts, incidents, analysis results, and remediation actions taken.

Access Control & Traffic Management– Configure and enforce policies to regulate network traffic passing through the proxy.

Threat Monitoring & Prevention– Identify and mitigate suspicious or malicious activity attempting to bypass proxy protections.

System Maintenance & Support– Manage device configurations, monitor system health, and coordinate vendor support when needed.


Required Skills:

In depth knowledge of Palo Alto security features, specifically around threat prevention, URL filtering, User-ID and Wildfire.


Implementing and deep understanding of security policies, security profiles, NAT, DoS protection and Break & Inspect.

In depth knowledge of Palo Alto products, including Panorama, Log Collectors and next-gen firewalls 3k-5k series.

Working knowledge of routing protocols, such as OSPF and BGP.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and troubleshoot issues.

Preferred Qualification:

Palo Alto Certification: Next-Gen firewall engineer specialist (New) or Network Security Engineer (PCNSE - Legacy)


Required Qualifications:

Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance.

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, cybersecurity, or a related field.

Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification or greater, including at least one of the following certifications in good standing: CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP, CASP+CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, GCIH, or CCSP.

7+ years of general knowledge in network security technologies with years an emphasis on intrusion detection and next-gen firewalls

This position is a Hybrid; a local IPS/Proxy Security Engineer in the Seaside, California area is required

This position is offering a pay range of $135,000 – $155,000 depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.
