Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly responsible and independent position that serves as a Health Educator for Florida Department of Health in Osceola County. Incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing, and conducting health promotion and public health education programs, events, and activities to improve community health.
Develop workplan(s) that align with the Agency Strategic priorities. Interprets, evaluate, and analyzes data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFFS), Florida Community Health assessment Resource Tool Set (CHARTS), and other reliable sources to determine priorities areas and develop programs and participate in community outreach activities to achieve plan objectives. Conducts health promotion and public health education classes, workshops and trainings for agency personnel, schools, civic groups, and the public. Prepares and distributes health education materials, including reports, bulletins, displays and multimedia content. Provides public health information in a competent and appropriate manner for the purpose of improving outcomes. The incumbent is responsible for routine travel to perform these duties, which involves visiting community partners, attending meetings, and outreach events.
Coordinates and participates in events with appropriate community partners. Assists in the securing of resources including services and educational materials as needed. Serves as focal point to educate the public on the role of the Department of Health. Documents all health promotion activities events and community meeting attendance on the community engagement spreadsheet. Acts as a resource to Health Department personnel and other health and community programs. Conducts evaluations to assess the quality and performance of health education programs to focus on annual health promotion plan. Host meetings and/or send after-event communication to community partners and/or attendees to request feddback and/or complete surveys related to the effectiveness of the event or program. Uses feedback to improve or enhance future events/programs. Serve on boards and committees, and attend meetings that support and advance the Health Department’s mission and provide updates to CHD leadership. As needed, supports community health improvement activities.
Develops and delivers health educational materials and presentations to audiences as needed. Assists in the achievement and maintenace of Public Health Accreditation status. Attends meetings, in-services and training that supports professional development.
Organizes events and programs in recognition of public health issues or other events of public health significance.
Prepares reports of activities and goal accomplishments.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
Note: This position may require work and/or meetings after hours and weekends performing Health Education Events.
Information Custodian responsibilities include maintaining information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, and Department of Health Security Policy 3 and associated Protocols and Procedures as it relates to Information Custodian, Delegation of Authority. This responsibility is to be adhered to 100% of the time.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
Knowledge of chronic diseases, risk factors, health education and health promotion practices. Ability to retrieve and explain chronic disease data. Skilled at oral and written communications. Ability to build and maintain partnerships. Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and organize work assignments and work independently. Knowledge of and skilled at using DOH approves electronic systems such as Microsoft Professional Suite and Outlook.
