About the role

The Supervisor of Pharmacy coordinates the daily activities of the Pharmacy, provides leadership and oversight to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care to the patients and assists with policy development to enhance the quality of patient care. The position is expected to meet state certifications, requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures, and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  1. Management Responsibilities
    1. Utilizes advanced clinical knowledge to delegate responsibility and authority for providing services, while continuously improving services to meet customer needs, and assuring adequate resources are available. Implements and monitors departmental work schedules and duty assignments and oversees departmental staffing levels.
    2. Schedules and assigns work to staff members, monitors work quality and quantity, and ensures efficient departmental operations by providing support when needed.
    3. Directs, coordinates, and participates in orientation, training, and continuing education programs for nurses, pharmacists and technicians.
  2. Quality
    1. Assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures to ensure the provision of high-quality health care services. Monitors the application of departmental and organizational policies and procedures, assist in the investigation of policy and procedure violations, reviews relevant incident reports, and recommends appropriate action and assists in conflict resolution as necessary.
    2. Compiles, maintains, and interprets records and statistics for functional areas assigned. Serves as a backup to the maintenance of the accuracy and completeness of pharmacy billing process and assures that appropriate charge capture processes are monitored and completed daily.
  3. Regulatory Compliance
    1. Monitors departmental standards for the evaluation of personnel performance and identifies ways of improving the quality of existing services. Evaluates departmental performance measures and makes recommendations for the departmental performance improvement program. Ensures staff members appropriately handle, document, and manage controlled substances.
  4. Other Duties As Assigned
    1. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  • 3 years as a Pharmacist in hospital or healthcare environment
  • Bachelors degree
  • Louisiana State Pharmacy License
