The Opportunity
This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA office in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Principal Financial Analyst who will focus on Finance tasks supporting Heart Failure R&D and Medical Affairs. This includes preparing financial budgets, workforce planning & analysis, assisting with monthly financial closing activities, analysis and review of operating results, assisting staff with all required finance tasks, ad hoc analysis, and presentations. The candidate will also possess and aptitude for utilizing financial systems to drive submission, consolidation and analysis of the business (SAP, Hyperion, PowerBI, etc).
What You’ll Work On
- Exercises judgment in planning, organizing and performing work; monitors performance and reports status within area of responsibility with a bias towards early action and cost/benefit analysis.
- Routinely performs financial planning and analysis activities for the Heart Failure R&D and Medical Affairs functions, which may include any combination of the following areas: budgeting and forecasting, detailed variance analysis, headcount analysis, purchase requisition approvals, capital management.
- Participates in the monthly closing process, including the preparation of journal entries and conducting research across multiple financial systems. Provides analytical insight into budget variances and performance.
- Prepares and distributes financial reports and packages by gathering and analyzing information related to current performance.
- Partners with business to develop month-end analysis and commentary related to the financial close cycle and quarterly Latest Best Estimate (LBE) cycles.
- Understands the business as a subject matter expert, represents the business in finance decisions.
- Supports the business in the preparation of capital purchase requisitions.
- Participates in ad hoc analysis and reporting as required by finance management and/or the groups supported.
- Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
- Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
- Executes annual goals and objectives as defined by the HF Finance team.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, a related field, or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience utilizing finance software: SAP, Hyperion/Essbase, or other similar tools.
