Job Summary:

The Associate Director, Investigations & Security Systems, plays a vital leadership role in Barnard CARES, as one of its leadership team members, responsible for overseeing all aspects of campus investigations and the strategic management of Barnard College’ physical security systems. This position ensures the effective operation, integration, and oversight of technologies including camera systems, access control, and platforms such as Lenel and Convergint. The Associate Director leads all investigatory functions and chairs Barnard’s Threat Assessment & Management Team, collaborating across departments to promote a safe, inclusive, and responsive campus environment.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities

Security Systems Strategy & Oversight

• Design and execute a strategic vision for the College’s security systems that supports a safe and welcoming campus environment.

• Oversee the implementation, functionality, and integrity of access control systems, video surveillance, and related security technologies (e.g., Lenel, MR3, RAVE, Convergint).

• Conduct regular system audits and maintain operational control to ensure appropriate access permissions and integration with College systems, in partnership with BCIT and Human Resources.

• Develop and maintain security system policies, usage standards, and training resources for system users.

• Liaise with vendors, contractors, Facilities and BCIT on all matters related to physical security systems.
   

Investigations

• Lead and coordinate investigations involving safety-related incidents reported to CARES.

• Produce timely, thorough, and well-documented investigative reports in accordance with institutional policies and relevant laws.

• Maintain accurate records of all incidents and outcomes, contributing to compliance and institutional reporting obligations (e.g., Clery).
   

Threat Assessment & Management

• Serve as Chair of Barnard’s Threat Assessment & Management Team, leading cross-divisional responses to individuals or situations of concern.

• Coordinate communication and intervention strategies with campus partners and CARES Responders.

• Regularly evaluate and update threat assessment protocols, documentation practices, and training materials in line with national best practices.

• Train and educate team members and broader community stakeholders in behavioral threat identification and response procedures.

Clery Compliance & Campus Notifications

• Lead the College’s Clery Act compliance efforts in collaboration with the Associate Director, CARES Response.

• Coordinate the preparation and submission of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR) and other federally required disclosures with the Associate Director, CARES Response..

• Maintain accurate crime and fire logs and ensure timely and accurate classification of Clery-reportable offenses.

• Issue Timely Warnings, Emergency Notifications, and other public safety communications as required by law to keep the community informed and safe.

• Ensure appropriate data sharing and documentation with institutional stakeholders and external agencies as needed.
   

Administrative and Operational Leadership

• Supervise any assigned staff or contractors engaged in investigations or system monitoring.

• Track key metrics related to safety systems, investigative response times, and campus safety trends to inform data-driven improvements.

• Collaborate with the Director, CARES and the CARES leadership team to support institutional emergency preparedness and strategic initiatives.

• Support and participate in campus CARES or Community Safety initiatives as needed, including occasional on-shift supervision of Community Safety Officers.

• Support campus-wide safety education efforts and participate in response planning and drills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Information
