Argo Group is actively recruiting a Sr. Underwriter based in the NY Metro area.  This Underwriter can be remote or aligned to the NY office in Midtown West.

Job Duties:

Responsible for:

New business production of primary and excess casualty construction business in line with Argo construction's appetite.  

  • Manage wholesale broker relationships in the NY state and surrounding states territory. 
  • Analyze complex construction exposures through research and collaboration with appointed wholesale brokers. 
  • Produce liability solutions with risk appropriate terms and pricing, adhering to Argo's underwriting guidelines and granted underwriting authority.
  • Negotiate exposure appropriate terms and pricing options.
  • Develop and enhance brokerage relationships through demonstration of underwriting excellence and service. 
  • Utilize Argo underwriting tools and systems to adhere with all operational and pricing guidelines.
  • Collaborate with claims and management on complex losses
  • Mentor Jr. level underwriters and provide training where needed.
  • Travel as needed to broker and internal Argo events. 
  • Provide clear and complete policy documentation in line with Argo policy standards. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of state laws, including nuances of NY labor law.
  • Critical thinking and an ability to make informed decisions. 
  • Strong understanding of policy form and 
  • Highly organized approach to time management. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or at least twelve years of related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight to ten years NY Contracting underwriting experience with authority in excess and surplus lines.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to effectively engage in the negotiation process.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel.
