Director of Finance & Budget - College of Arts & Sciences - Mgr Finance III

The Director will develop the College’s annual operating budget and ensure appropriate stewardship and use of funds to maximize college resources and ensure compliance with university policy and external regulations. The Director will provide direction, support and training in financial management and budget development to administrators in the College’s 40+ departments and programs and will collaborate with Director of Facilities, Director of Human Resources and Director of Information Technology on the many issues that cross functional lines. Provide leadership and guidance to the College budget and finance team.
The College of Arts & Sciences has over 500 tenure track faculty, 200 other academics and 300 non-academic staff in 40+ academic departments and academic programs, and a student population of 4,100 undergraduate majors and 1,500 graduate students spread across 20 academic buildings. The overall College budget amounts to more than $330 million, including more than $27 million in sponsored research funding.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.
- Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to financial management, plus 5-7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong background in budget and financial planning, management, and analysis.
- At least 5 years’ experience in university or public sector financial management, budget preparation, and fiscal operations management.
- Ability to successfully manage finances, including ability to maximize revenues, focus resources on organizational goals, provide effective stewardship, and develop effectual financial analyses.
- Ability to design and implement projects independently and in a timely manner is essential.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to think creatively and use data to support decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues and constituencies across campus.
- Requires strong organizational management and supervisory skills and strong systems skills.
- Grant and contract management experience.
