Nurse Manager, Patient Flow & Staffing

In accordance with the Mission and Cornerstone Behaviors, the Nurse Manager, under the direction of the Department Director, plans, organizes, staffs and directs patient care on a daily operational basis in accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act. Functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the Organization.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:  Graduate from school of nursing; BSN required
  • Licensure/Certification: Current license to practice in the State of Florida
  • Experience: Minimum of two year’s recent and relevant clinical experience required
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Evidence of effective leadership and management abilities/potential
  • BLS healthcare provider training required
  • Professional Certification Preferred
  • ACLS healthcare provider training, if applicable (i.e. Emergency Department, ICU)

Job and Technical Competencies:

  • Managing Performance: Provides supervision of employees in their respective department/service area and partners with their service line director to ensure 24 hour accountability. Performs interviewing, hiring, orienting, counseling and evaluating of all employees. Establishes work schedules and daily assignments. Participates in direct patient care activities as needed. Supervises Charge Nurses, RNs, LPNs, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel, and Multidisciplinary Associates.
  • Planning: Collaborates with all disciplines on the healthcare team and within the organization to provide patient care. Implements department goals and objectives.
  • Financial Performance: Responsible for labor, supply and equipment control and cost containment for their respective department/service area. Collaborates in developing the annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Performance Improvement: Participates in quality monitoring for designated areas, focusing on optimal patient outcomes, regulatory, compliance, risk management, and continuous quality and process improvement. Includes both intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities.
  • Communication: Develops and maintains effective working relationships with staff, other departments and physicians. Provides education and communication at unit meetings.
  • Clinical Excellence: Participates in the development of departmental standards, policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols. Maintains awareness of department/service area operations and potential for problems through regular rounds and interaction with physicians and staff.
  • Education and Training: Assists with the planning and implementation of department education/training. Promotes professional and personal growth and clinical competence. Ensures optimal patient care through ongoing evaluation of educational needs of staff. Functions as clinical resource for staff.
  • Nursing Process: Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care for an assigned group of patients, utilizing Evidence Based Practice. Collaborates with patient and family to develop and implement a plan of care that includes physical, spiritual and educational components.
  • Relationship Based Care: Creates a caring and healing environment that keeps the patient, family, team, and self at the center of care throughout their experience at Halifax Health following the principles of our interdisciplinary care delivery system.
