About the role
- Champion a culture of reliability within the maintenance department by fostering a data-driven approach to decision making and encouraging a focus on proactive maintenance strategies.
- Provides work direction to the electrical team and provides quality operational repairs and preventative maintenance services.
- Uses all proper and necessary tools to safely repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment.
- Performs duties necessary to maintain upkeep of the plywood facility. These include:
- Repairing/replacing motor control circuits, pneumatic valves & cylinders, hydraulic valves and cylinder relay circuits, DC & AC drives, limit & proximity switches, and other field devices. Experience with conduit bending and wiring motors.
- Working with programming of VFD, Allen Bradley software and ability to troubleshoot PLC’s.
- Monitoring the use and inventories of spare parts, electrical supplies, and equipment and initiating reordering when necessary.
- Operating a forklift, mobile crane or other rolling stock on occasion.
- Communicates regularly with team and management to ensure good two-way communication concerning electrical/maintenance issues.
- Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement through root cause analysis.
- Understands and remains aware of monthly, weekly, and daily numbers regarding efficiency, productivity, downtime, quality, and safety.
- Implements projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
- Leads safety, health, and environmental policies and practices within team. Responds to and leads repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or Safety Manager.
- May also have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.

- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and perform effectively in a fast paced and constantly changing environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize, multi-task, and prioritize.
- Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- 5+ years related electrical experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
- Must successfully pass Hood Industries’ Electrical Certification Process
- Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Willing and able to work in a hot, cold, noisy, industrial environment.
- Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours per day.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in working in wood products.
- Experience operating a forklift.
