The opportunity

EY is currently seeking a Tax Associate to join our Partnership Expatriate tax team.  At EY, our Partnership Expatriate tax professionals assist in managing employer and individual income tax obligations for our EY Partners working abroad and inbound.

 

As a Global Mobility Tax Associate in Partnership tax, you will be responsible for preparing and filing individual income tax returns for Expatriate and Inpatriate partners. You will assist with preparing extension calculations, quarterly estimates for payment and coordinating to facilitate payments sent to the relevant tax authorities. You may also perform general accounting activities in accordance with established policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Prepare various individual tax returns in accordance with firm policies, procedures, and statutory requirements. This includes extensions, quarterly estimates and individual partner returns.
  • Work directly with Senior Associate or Associate Directors on federal, state, or local tax notices/audits and prepare responses.
  • Work with EY foreign office locations on questions regarding tax and/or accounting issues and escalate accordingly.
  • Assist on special projects, as requested.
  • Identify and communicate to management on tax notices or return filing issues that arise.
  • Gain a working knowledge of the tax questions, electronic calendar, communicate with assignees and resolving questions that may arise on a daily basis.
  • Work with several managers concurrently and prioritize work accordingly.
  • Identify issues that may create potential financial exposure and/or risk to EY and escalate these as appropriate.  
  • Exhibit professional and sound business judgment in decision-making, corresponding and communicating.
  • Exhibit or be able to develop knowledge of the firm's business, policies, and software applications (e.g., CCH Axcess, Sureprep,etc.).

 

Skills and attributes for success

You’ll be working to prepare tax returns, so ensuring accuracy and identification of issues is vital to mitigating risk on behalf of the firm. You’ll be working with EY professionals at all levels, so developing relationships and collaboration on special projects will be essential. You’ll leverage your excellent attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities to complete tasks on time and accurately. 

 

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Working knowledge of tax and accounting principles and Microsoft Office software
  • English language skills - excellent written and verbal communication
  • A positive attitude and approach, with a willingness to accept new challenges, and flexibility and acceptance of change
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering quality work, with a desire to team with others, and help create a positive work environment
  • Approximately 1-3 years of individual income tax experience (federal, state, and local tax returns).
  • Associates degree or equivalent tax work experience
  • Ability to work overtime during the busy season mid-February through April 15. Additional overtime requirements may be needed at specific deadline periods (June 15, October 15, December 15). Vacations typically not taken during this time frame

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience working or interning in professional services
