Summary
The Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant I to join our team at the Baylor Medicine McNair Campus outpatient clinic. This role will provide essential clinical support under the direct supervision of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) clinical lead. The Medical Assistant I will be responsible for a combination of patient care duties, clerical and administrative tasks, and surgical scheduling support. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth clinic operations and delivering high-quality care to our patients.
Job Duties
• Assists with surgery scheduling, coordinating with providers, patients, and surgical teams to ensure accurate and timely bookings.
• Provides clinical support to vascular and podiatric surgery providers in an outpatient clinic setting.
• Manages in-basket messages and ensures timely responses within 24 hours.
• Collects and documents patient history and vital signs in the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR).
• Records the patient’s chief complaint and reason for visit.
• Prepares examination rooms and sets up instruments and equipment for physician use.
• Serves as a liaison between the physician and patient, communicating test results and follow-up instructions.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of patient care and service areas.
• Schedules patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments in Baylor Medicine and hospital EMR systems.
• Performs administrative duties including filing, scanning medical records, and retrieving lab results, imaging reports, hospital notes, and referral documentation.
• Monitors and maintains clinic inventory, ensuring adequate stock of medical and office supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- No experience required.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Surgery scheduling experience.
