Position Specific Description

Join the world’s leading generator of wind energy as a High Voltage Technician at NextEra Energy. As a High Voltage Technician, you will be the critical front-line to ensure the safe and optimal performance of all wind farm operations. You will primarily focus on the safe execution of field-based equipment maintenance, diagnostics, as well as long-term reliability and profitability. The Field Operations HV Technician II is responsible for safely operating and maintaining high voltage (HV) equipment and systems. This role requires a strong technical background, expertise in HV systems, and a commitment to ensuring the efficient operation of our power generation facilities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain HV equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, relays, switchgear, and associated systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities on HV systems to ensure their reliability and performance.
  • Perform both planned and unplanned maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of HV equipment and associated controls in compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and teams to resolve complex issues and optimize system performance.
  • Assist in testing and commissioning activities for new HV equipment installations or upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and compliance documentation.
  • Follow all safety protocols and adhere to relevant regulations while performing tasks.
  • Continuously update knowledge and skills through training and professional development opportunities.

Job Overview

This position provides support to routine field operations, collection systems, transmissions, and substations.  Additional responsibilities may include the support of senior-level technicians in project management and contractor oversite within a specified geographical region while ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to the power grid.  This position requires greater than 40% supervision and work oversight.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine work in the construction and maintenance of all substation, transmission, and collection system equipment
  • Work with data communication equipment
  • Report and coordinate emergency response and repair to all high voltage equipment and systems within an assigned geographical area with resources from Energy Resource Control Center and Technical Services
  • Establish and maintain high voltage inventory, equipment, and vehicles within an assigned geographical area according to company safety and maintenance standards
