About the role
We Are Hiring
- Department: Nursing Administration-WOCN
- Schedule: Full-time Day Shift- 40 hrs./week
- Hospital: UAB St. Vincent's East
- Location: Trussville, Alabama
While certification is not required for this position, a minimum of 1 year experience in wound care is preferred. We will assist with obtaining the certification (WTA-C).
What You Will Do
Patient Assessment & Treatment Planning:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with wounds, pressure injuries, surgical incisions, and skin breakdown.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and provider recommendations.
Wound Care Management:
- Perform wound care procedures, including dressing changes, debridement, and negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT).
- Monitor wound healing progression and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Educate patients and caregivers on wound care management, infection prevention, and lifestyle modifications to promote healing.
Collaboration & Coordination:
- Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate wound care treatment.
- Provide consultation and education to nursing staff on best wound care practices and dressing techniques.
- Participate in interdisciplinary wound care rounds and case reviews.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatment plans, interventions, and progress notes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory guidelines, and infection control standards.
Patient & Staff Education:
- Conduct training sessions on wound prevention strategies, skin integrity maintenance, and pressure ulcer prevention.
- Serve as a resource for clinical staff regarding wound care products, evidence-based treatments, and new technologies.
What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Active Alabama RN License

- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in wound care, home health, or an acute care setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred:
- Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN), Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN), or Wound Care Certified (WCC) preferred.
- Experience with advanced wound care therapies, including NPWT, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and pressure injury prevention.
- Strong knowledge of wound assessment tools (e.g., Braden Scale, Wagner Classification).
