The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University seeks a faculty physician with interest and expertise in vulvovaginitis, benign vulvar and vaginal disorders, and clinical research. The successful candidate will join the Jefferson Vulvovaginal Health Center (JVHC), which is committed to clinical excellence, education, scholarship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Candidates may maintain a full-scope obstetrics and gynecology practice, including obstetrics, or may pursue a gynecology-only practice depending on clinical background, departmental need, and candidate interest.

Job Description

The selected candidate will contribute to patient care, clinical research, education, and departmental academic activity.

Clinical Care

  • Provide evidence-based outpatient care for patients with vulvovaginitis and related benign vulvar or vaginal conditions.
  • Evaluate and manage acute, recurrent, and complex vulvovaginal symptoms in coordination with appropriate clinical teams.
  • Maintain a general obstetrics and gynecology or gynecology-only clinical practice, based on agreed clinical scope.
  • Participate in departmental clinical coverage and service responsibilities as assigned.
  • Deliver patient-centered care that supports access, dignity, equity, and continuity.

Clinical Research and Scholarship

  • Develop or participate in clinical research related to vulvovaginitis, benign vulvar and vaginal disorders. Research may include clinical trials, diagnostics/assay development studies, and translational.
  • Collaborate with Jefferson investigators, trainees, research staff, other academic institutions, and industry.
  • Contribute to research design, protocol development, IRB submissions, data interpretation, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Seek internal, foundation, philanthropic, industry, or extramural funding when aligned with the candidate’s career path and departmental priorities.
  • Support growth of a focused clinical and academic program in vulvovaginitis and related conditions.

Education and Mentorship

  • Teach medical students, residents, and other learners in clinical settings.
  • Incorporate current evidence related to vulvovaginitis and gynecologic care into educational activities.
  • Mentor trainees interested in clinical research, case reports, quality improvement, or academic careers.
  • Participate in departmental conferences, lectures, simulation, journal clubs, or continuing education programs as appropriate.

Program Development and Collaboration

  • Partner with JVHC Director to strengthen clinical services for vulvovaginitis and related vulvar or vaginal conditions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve referral pathways, patient education, access, care coordination, and clinical outcomes.
  • Participate in departmental strategic planning, clinical innovation, and scholarly activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • Academic credentials sufficient for faculty appointment at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
  • Demonstrated clinical interest in vulvovaginitis, vulvar and vaginal disorders, general gynecology, or related women’s health conditions.
  • Interest in clinical research, scholarly activity, or academic program development.
  • Commitment to teaching, collaboration, professionalism, inclusive excellence, and health equity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior clinical or scholarly work focused on acute and recurrent vulvovaginitis, vulvar disorders, vaginal microbiome, infectious or inflammatory gynecologic conditions, sexual health, vulvodynia, or related areas.
  • Experience with clinical research methods, protocol development, IRB processes, database or registry work, abstracts, manuscripts, or grants.
  • Master’s degree in clinical research, public health, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Demonstrated success securing grant funding or other competitive research support.
  • Experience mentoring medical students, residents, advanced practice clinicians or junior colleagues.
  • Ability to collaborate constructively across disciplines, sites, and academic programs.
