Job Summary:
A pharmacy technician is an individual who, under the direct supervision and control of a pharmacist, performs packaging, manipulative, repetitive, or other non-discretionary tasks related to the processing of a prescription in a licensed pharmacy, but exclude all functions restricted to a registered pharmacist.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Places purchase orders for pharmaceuticals and other items needed in the Pharmacy through prime vendor or other source as needed. Completes necessary paperwork.
- Checks in and receives pharmaceuticals and other items as ordered above while ensuring that a pharmacist signs the paperwork for all products received.
- Runs Vendor Cost Upload quarterly to keep prices of medication current.
- Enters any new item received into the CPSI system which assigns it an item number and informs the pharmacist so it can be determined if said item will be placed in the automated dispensing cabinet (Omnicell).
- Prepares items for addition to the Omnicell according to the “Restock List” printed twice daily. Presents these items to Pharmacist for checking accuracy.
- Packages pharmaceutical products as needed and maintains appropriate records.
- Replenishes stock in automated dispensing cabinets.
- Screen calls for pharmacists.
- Prepare medication inventories.
- Reviews laws, rules, and other applicable standards in order to ensure compliance regarding pharmaceutical services.
- Prepares orders of OTC items ordered by employees and charges them through the CPSI System.
- Performs checks of Pharmacy related paperwork
- Maintains filing system for all Pharmacy related paperwork.
Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED. Registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Florida. Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred.
Experience: 6 months experience as a Pharmacy Technician. Hospital experience preferred.
Skills: CPOE and ADC
Knowledge: Knowledge of duties of Hospital Pharmacy Technician
