1. PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for leading project and product teams to be on schedule and on budget.  Maintains good working relationships with clients, staff, and outside contractors.  Partners with team members and ensures that established goals and deadlines are met.  Ensures compliance with safety regulations and technical requirements.  Actively communicates with Director Engineering and across business units on status of projects.

2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage engineering activities including requirements analysis, design, and testing for transit projects and delegate tasks to engineering team as required.
  • Track all open items assigned to respective product group. Assign tasks accordingly to project and workloads. Provide feedback accordingly.
  • Main point of contact for manufacturing and quality issues. Relay design intent and product acceptability requirements.
  • Review customer documents including CDRLs and customer outline drawings alongside project management. According to quality, scope, and schedule.
  • Provide input to the product development and sales team during the tendering phase to ensure a smooth transition from tendering to project execution.
  • Execute, control and maintain projects costs, manufacturability, quality and design requirements during product development cycle, project time and expenses.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs for new designs and maintain product profitability through selection of most advantageous processes and materials.
  • Support the project management team and provide direct interaction to customers related to engineering questions for product inspections, customer testing, and field problems.
  • Manage ECR/ECN assignments and track timely completions.
  • Support field issues on customer service issues not dedicated to current ongoing projects.
  • Directly interview candidates for design engineering positions and support other departments hiring processes as required.
  • Assist in creating and tracking yearly employee goals. Conduct reviews accordingly.
  • Support Engineering Director on departmental process improvements. Train assigned team on existing and new processes to ensure they are implemented properly.
  • Support Engineering Director on achieving Transtech company goals including work efficiency budget requirements.

3. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director Engineering.

4. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE  

Minimum education, job experience, certifications, skills, knowledge and abilities that incumbent must typically have to perform the essential functions of the job acceptably with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have a minimum 10 years’ mechanical design experience (management experience a plus)
  • Analyze design proposals, specifications, and requirements. (Rail Transportation experience a plus)
  • Reviews procurement costs ensuring adherence to budgets and timetables.
  • Evaluates supplier’s proposals and related documentation.
  • Ensures that safety regulations and requirements are met.
  • Proven track record of new product designs that have been manufactured in a reliable and cost-effective manner
  • Must have knowledge of manufacturing process as they relate to engineering design
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (MS Project experience a plus)
  • Some travel may be required to support projects
