Job Description

The Production Planner will manage plant capacity to satisfy customer demand through efficient planning and scheduling. Analyze and revise production plan and provide appropriate delivery dates, as required.  Collaborate with the customer service, sales, and management teams to meet business goals.

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Regularly process Material Requirement Planning (MRP) reports, review shop floor capacity and compare to the production schedule to identify any issues in meeting the needs of the business.   
  • Actively plan and schedule work orders to ensure timely completion and shipment to meet customer deadlines. Ensure completed schedule is structured by operation or shipment date.
  • Proactively work with internal customer and suppliers to ensure timely flow of materials to meet production schedules and expedite orders as necessary.
  • Accurately evaluate stocking levels for fabricated parts, finished goods and work in process based on manufacturing lead-times/cycle-times and current usages.
  • Partner and liaise with buyer and commercial team on quarterly sales and operations planning calls.
  • Ensure maximum inventory turnover, monitor minimum aged stock levels, and on-time delivery, to include:
    • Carryover – maintain running workorders to their due date
    • Monitor capacity utilization, report weekly capacity using Capacity Planner (CAPS)
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, through feedback and contribution to the initiative to create a lean, flexible, and responsive department.
  • Attentively participate in weekly sales and operations calls and accurately prepare the assembly the report outs.
  • Proactively analyze and measure the current production status and identify problem areas that inhibit full schedule realization and actively communicate with the impacted parties and departments.
  • Consistently collaborate efforts with the manufacturing team to continually improve on-time delivery throughout the product life cycle.
  • Provide specific details on the schedule throughout all levels of the production process. Partner with and provide backup to production scheduler to expedite orders, manage rebuild processes, capacity analysis. Manage the lead-time page in SharePoint.
  • Accurately schedule manufacturing capacity to ensure timely customer orders, minimize costs, and improve manufacturing flexibility.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or relevant field of study preferred, plus a minimum of 3 (three) years of experience in production control in a manufacturing environment, or combination of education and experience.

Material Requirement Planning (MRP) experience or equivalent manufacturing execution system is required.

Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) certifications such as American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Planning.  Solid understanding of constraint-based management and demand driven scheduling. Ability to quickly assess obstacles and offer solutions to meet company initiatives. Exceptional prioritization, time management and organizational skills.  Ability to independently perform administrative tasks, while remaining thorough, detailed oriented, and observant. 
  • Core Job Skills.  Thorough knowledge of basic mathematical concepts and principles.  Possess working knowledge of machining concepts.  Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, Information Change Requests (ICR) and Material Requirement Planning (MRP).  Skilled in applying continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Core People Skills.  Ability to positively interact and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization.  Genuine with high ethical standards and values, and personal integrity and honesty.  Ability to apply a large measure of common sense to a variety of situations.
