Traveling Substance Abuse Therapist - Outpatient

Gateway Rehab Center (GRC) has an outstanding opportunity for a Traveling Therapist who is responsible for providing substance use treatment services for a variety of GRC’s outpatient locations. Our Therapist will travel to our outpatient centers within the Pittsburgh area, especially Center Township, North Strabane, and Wexford, PA locations.  

Responsibilities

• Provides Group Therapy coverage as needed at the GRC outpatient locations. 
• Utilizes and promotes trauma-informed treatment through the provision of evidence-based practices. 
• Provides direct therapeutic services consisting of individual, group, and/or family therapy dependent on the patient's needs. 
• Completes clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner.  
• Provides referrals for additional care or services when required 
• Participates in regular supervision with the manager and seeks out additional supervision as needed. 
• Adheres to all applicable provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). 
• Adheres to the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS), Department of Public Welfare (DPW), and Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) regulations. 
• Completes mandatory orientation and annual training programs; completes applicable attendance documentation.   
• Provides coverage for caseloads including clinical documentation (treatment planning, discharge planning, authorizations, etc) as assigned. 
• Performs other similar and related duties as necessary and/or as assigned. 
• Attends mandatory GRC trainings and in-services. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, and other professionals.
• Understands the nature of addiction, including its psychological, physiological, and social aspects.
• Ability to conduct thorough assessments to diagnose substance use disorders and/or co-occurring conditions.
• Ability to provide individual and/or group therapy to help patients understand their addiction and develop coping strategies.
• Skilled at analyzing complex situations and making sound decisions regarding treatment and intervention strategies.
• Has the capacity to manage personal stress and maintain professionalism in challenging situations.
• Ability to uphold strict confidentiality to protect patients’ privacy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with 1 year experience in a behavioral health environment.  
• Degree must be in field that meets the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs staffing qualification regulations. Pennsylvania Certified Addictions Counselor certification required in addition to degree if degree held does not meet Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs staffing qualification regulations.

• Master's Degree

• Pass a PA Criminal Background Check
• Obtain PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprinting Clearances
• Pass Drug Screen
• TB Test 
• Obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
