The SCADA Operations team within RWE Clean Energy ensures the daily operations of our control solutions for battery energy storage, solar, and wind projects of RWE and its customers are designed with the highest quality for the entire life cycle - from the development phase to operation. This position executes the design, support, and integration of our projects in our GMS system within RWE Clean Energy.

 

This position is key in the operational support and improvements of our site SCADA and Power Plant Controller systems. The role works to ensure that these systems are functional and that operational teams and stakeholders are receiving the required data from these systems to fulfill business reporting requirements.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with stakeholders and site operations to ensure the systems are functional as they are designed
  • Coordinate with SCADA Operations team members on projects to ensure timely delivery of projects
  • Manage the support for SCADA systems for the control and operation of renewable energy systems
  • Manage the support for operations of power generation assets and substations
  • Manage the support and maintain substation RTU configurations (SEL RTAC)
  • Manage the support and maintain power plant control systems and substation automation
  • Configure various SCADA system elements
  • Provide high levels of customer support to the 24x7 dispatch desk
  • Provide off-hour support for emergencies and major system events affecting the capability to run generation assets
  • Strong capability to design industrial control networks
  • Provide off-hour support (rotational) for emergencies and major system events affecting the capability to run generation assets
  • Good documentation and technical writing skills
  • Working experience with basic OT systems such as remote desktop, VPN, windows server
  • Some working experience with PLC and logic control of utility systems
  • Some working experience with protection, metering, and substation equipment
  • Must be open to collaboration and working in a team environment
  • Passion and motivation to work in the renewables industry

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the control field
  • A minimum of 8 professional experience applicable to electric power generation, generation management, and automatic generation control
  • Experience with OPC data transfer from site to other internal systems
  • Experience with ICCP data transfer, SFTP data transfer, and XML data transfer
  • Experience with SCADA HMIs
  • Experience with Battery Controls systems preferred
  • Experience with Power Plant Controller preferred
  • Experience with SQL databases and reporting systems
  • Experience with regulation and compliance requirements and processes
  •  
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, etc.)
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
