Description

 

The pharmacy residency is a one-year ASHP accredited program. The resident will rotate every 5 weeks in various clinical areas. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: medication order processing within established policies, procedures and guidelines, providing drug information while applying a thorough understanding and knowledge of drug and medical therapy. As a resident this individual will serve as a staff pharmacist, be cross-trained in multiple areas, have longitudinal projects (MUE, DCR, research project), have an on-call component, rotate every 5 weeks through clinical rotations, serve as a preceptor for APPE pharmacy students, and other requirements as indicated and required in the pharmacy resident manual.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Education
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) Completion of a four year pharmacy program in an accredited college of pharmacy. (Required)

Pharmacist District of Columbia (Required)

Functional Accountabilities


Quality Improvement
• Particpate in cost-savings initiatives within the department
• Within residency program, complete MUE, DCR, and other major projects as required
• Contribute to the development of order sets by helping devise, implement, and test electronic order set builds
Professional Development
• Research project
• Attend, present, and/or moderate at subject area conferences, as available
• Participate in all aspects of the residency program


Drug Intervention and Education
• Perform drug therapy monitoring and intervene as necessary on drug dosing, drug administration, drug interactions, side 
effects, and monitoring issues; complete therapeutic drug monitoring consults and adverse drug reaction reports as 
assigned. Document all interventions appropriately. 
• Provide accurate and timely drug information to providers, nurses, and other health professionals
• Provide education to all caregivers


Supervision / Training 
• Oversee the work of pharmacy technicians by directing and assisting as necessary to ensure rapid medication order 
turnaround time 
• Precept pharmacy students 


Distributive Role
• Interpret medication orders, profile orders, and oversee the packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications
• Fulfill assigned tasks for scheduled role each day and be present for entire shift
