About the role

Definition & Purpose 

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director—Recreational Programs and Facility Operations, the Intermittent Facility Supervisor is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of ASI facilities and programs. This role serves as the first responder to injuries and leads emergency response efforts, ensuring facilities remain operationally safe. When full-time staff or a Student Manager are not present, the Intermittent Facility Supervisor provides general safety oversight of ASI programs within the Physical Education and Aquatics Center (PEAC), Bodnar Field, Morrow Cove, and Sport Court. The Intermittent Facility Supervisor is expected to exercise sound judgment and represent ASI with professionalism and integrity. 

This position is based at the Cal Poly Maritime Academy on the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA.

Requirements

Educational Requirements & Qualifying Experience 

  • Current American Red Cross certification (or equivalent) in the following: Adult First Aid, CPR, and AED is required within 30 days of hire, training provided by ASI . 
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to ASI’s insurance underwriters. 
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Facility security experience preferred. 
  • Experience with program participation preferred. 
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Customer service skills and ability to work with a wide range of populations. 
  • Experience with administration, supervision, advising or public relations. 
  • General knowledge of program services of the Recreation Center. 
  • Experience in leadership or management. 
  • Ability to receive constructive criticism to support leadership development. 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • Provide general oversight of Frontline Services Student Assistants, Fitness Instructors and Lifeguards. 
  • Provide management authority and student staff supervision in the absence of full-time staff members. 
  • Supervise program participants’ behavior and appropriately intervene when needed. 
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff and co-workers. 
  • Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures. 
  • Commitment to student development and leadership. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

Daily Operations 

  • Oversee daily operations of the Physical Education and Aquatics Center (PEAC), Bodnar Field, Morrow Cove, and Sport Court by implementing facility-specific policies and clearly communicating expectations to participants. 
  • Open, close, and secure facilities at designated times. 
  • Inspect facilities for safety, maintenance, or custodial concerns and communicate identified issues with supervisor. 
  • Provide breaks for student staff members, serve as a backup for staff members who cannot attend work, and use the phone lists to cover for no-show employees. 
  • Compile daily user statistics and facility reports. 
  • Make regular rounds between ASI facilities to ensure activities are conducted safely and appropriately. 
  • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all staff and participants. 
  • Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers. 
  • Act as an ASI representative at all times with an extensive knowledge of ASI and University programs, facilities, and services. 

Program Support 

  • Monitor use of spaces by reserved groups.  
  • Monitor crowd control and proactively recognize potential event problems. 
  • Prepare all necessary materials and venues for efficient, safe, and service oriented intramural contests. 
  • Maintain accurate participant documentation (eligibility, sportsmanship, waivers, results, playoff brackets, etc.). 
  • Officiate intramural sports activities as needed. 
  • Understand and administer sportsmanship ratings to participants. 
  • Adhere to and enforce intramural sports rules and policies. 
  • Check participants in and verify registration for intramural sports activities. 
  • Provide program promotion and policy education to participants. 
  • Set up and take down special equipment (e.g., volleyball nets, audiovisual equipment) at the Physical Education and Aquatics Center (PEAC), Bodnar Field, Morrow Cove, and Sport Court. 
  • Assist other ASI staff areas with the preparation and operation of their program area as needed. 
  • Attend at least two hours of safety and evacuation training per quarter for the Recreation Center. 
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, trainings, workshops, and retreats.
