Job Description
What's the Role?
As a member of the Services SRE team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day and longer term health and reliability of critical applications and services that power Etsy Search, as well as participating in the team’s periodic 24/7 on-call roster.
This is a full-time position reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager and the base salary range will be $128,000 - $153,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What’s this team’s mission at Etsy?
The App SRE team is responsible for the health, scalability, and reliability of the critical family of systems that power Etsy search and ML applications.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Design, build, support and maintain the core infrastructure used by the services in our portfolio, including observability, test tooling, CICD, and container orchestration (GKE)
Support the application engineers who depend on our infrastructure to deploy and run their mission critical applications
Participate in the team’s 24/7 on-call production support rotation.
Collaborate with various platform teams, application developers and product partners to build and support the next generation of cloud services.
Practice continuous learning using an agile delivery model to stay informed and focused on our team objectives.

Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
You have strong software engineering and coding skills, data structure knowledge and ability to write high performance production quality code.
Solid understanding of container orchestration systems like Kubernetes (traffic ingresses, cluster networking/administration, pod security policies) in highly available critical production environments.
You have experience working with languages like Java, Scala, Python, Go, Rust or other equivalent languages.
You are a strong collaborator and communicator and you’re able to leverage the engineers around you to grow and learn.
You have fundamental experience with infrastructure engineering and strong, creative problem solving skills.
You have solid background and hands-on experience building and troubleshooting applications running on Cloud technologies such as Google Cloud or AWS.
You have solid experience with Unix/Linux operating systems, and proficiency in the networking stack (e.g., TCP/IP, routing, network topologies and hardware, SDN) is a plus.
Experience with monorepo build systems like Bazel is welcome!
Experience with search technologies such as Lucene/Solr or Elasticsearch is a plus.
Experience with supporting ML services is a plus.
Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, OpenTelemetry and other observability (logging, tracing) tooling is a plus.
